Why? Because eight months ago it was all I could do to drive to work, drive home again and collapse on the couch. I was so wrecked. I was one year into living with the diagnosis of a chronic illness, and that, together with the heavy medication I was on, was bringing my quality of life down to record low numbers.
Actually, exactly eight months ago today I was laying on the couch watching Netflix, in the same clothes I had been wearing for 2three days. I hadn’t left my house or seen anyone or really even moved.
If you’re doing the maths on that, Laura, you’ll know that I’m talking about Christmas. I was so down, so weak and so tired, that I locked myself away in an air-conditioned room watching TV over my entire Christmas break.
I had decided that my life was basically over, and all there was left to do was wait it out.
Normally, my mediocre job sapped all my energy so that laying on the couch every night was perfectly fine. But after a few consecutive days of it, my mind was wondering. And I somehow stumbled into a Facebook group run by my mentor Leonie Dawson. She was talking about essential oils.
I wasn’t that interested in smelly hippy stuff, but I was keen on the distraction, so I poked around for a while. And when I started reading some of the testimonials, I started to get interested.
Not jump-up-and-down interested, but maybe sit-up-on-the-couch interested. I thought about it for a day or two. I spoke to some people at work about it (thankfully I was back at work and out of my cave).
When my Kit arrived I did what I think most people do – I sniffed all the bottles, then put the couple I really liked at the front, set up my diffuser, and didn’t think much more about it.
Then I started researching with an app or two, getting online and learning about this new medicine I had. Over the next couple of months I started playing around with replacing things I was already using with oils.
In January, a quick application of DigestZen blend on my tummy had me up off the floor of the bathroom and back in bed when I had thought I was for sure going to spend the night in there!
In February I stopped taking a nightly anti-spasmodic medication because my spasms had stopped after daily application of Frankincense (thank heavens, because the meds were also making me groggy every morning. Ew).
In April, I realised that I hadn’t been sick all year, despite everyone around me being almost constantly ill, and my medication weakening my immune system.
By May I was feeling so empowered and in control of my own health that I (working with my neurologist and GP) ceased taking the medications I had been on for over a year. I also left my job to work on my biz full-time.
Which is how I find myself, in August, spending a month working in Europe.
Perhaps this sounds dramatic, but it’s completely true: these oils have changed my life.
Whoa …. I’m gonna get seriously real with you for a second. I just had a Freudian slip – keyboard style. I originally wrote “These oils have saved my life”. And then I deleted it and wrote “these oils have changed my life”.
And then I cried.
Because these oils have, in fact, saved my life.
So how, for the love of any and all things in the multiverse, could I not share them with you?
Spoiler Alert: there is bit to read on this page because I want you to feel really supported in investing in yourself in this way. If you want even more support, shoot me an email and we can work through it together. Fun!
Easy Air: heading into a two hour meeting where I would be sitting very close to someone who was sniffing and snotting all over the place. One dose of EasyAir and he didn’t sniff again for the whole meeting.
DigestZen: Last week I was in Bulgaria. I’m vegan … the result was BREAD and BREAD and POTATOES and a tummy that looked like I was at least 8 months pregnant (ouch!). Until DigestZen made it all better again. Phew.
Frankincense: I use this one every. Single. Day. Amazing for all things skin related, as well as neurological.
Ice Blue: Technically called the “athletic blend” this one supports my wacky body when it does something “creative” to compensate for my scoliosis. Oh and it also released a nasty hand cramp from colouring-in hehe.
Lavender: Sleep, relaxation, you know all that. What about removing itchiness from bites and rashes, or taking the sting out of sunburn. Yes, really.
Lemon: Finally a way to have lemon water every morning without getting in trouble from my dentist! I also clean my house with this oil in water. No more toxic cleaning products!
Oregano: So much immune support. Together with OnGuard, this is why I never got the colds that were rampant in my workplace.
Peppermint: Goodbye headaches, goodbye spasms. Peppermint is also amazingly cooling, which has been supporting me through my European Summer exploits.
Tea Tree: Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal – I use this one on spots, and I also include it in the water I use to mop my floors.
OnGuard: At the tiniest feeling of sickness, I up my OnGuard applications, and nothing has developed any further.
