Colour therapy is a sense-based therapy, which uses the different energies of light and colour to promote balance and harmony in mind, body and spirit.
The healing energy within the visible light spectrum affects our emotional and mental states, and colour therapy seeks to master the beneficial uses of colour through as many aspects of our lives as possible, including (but not limited to) our surroundings and clothing.
“Really?” I hear you asking Yup - keep reading!
The clothes we wear filter the light from the sun hitting our skin. So, if one is wearing purple, the light that comes through to the body will contain that purple energy. This light energy is then carried through to our cells and tissue.
Different coloured light affects all living tissue, and will in turn affect our metabolism and psyche. Colours also give out vibrations which affect our bodies – clashing colours will give out conflicting vibrations.
Example: wearing red. The principle healing effect of red is activating the warm principle of the human body, specifically the arterial blood. It stimulates and enlivens.
Bright colours work best in a kitchen. Light yellow, green and peach create a good atmosphere for communication and conversation, so would be wonderful in a family kitchen, especially if you also eat there. The colours of yellow and peach also stimulate the appetite.
Conversely, you wouldn’t benefit from using these colours in your bedroom - not if you wanted it to be a restful space. For relaxation and good sleep you would do better with blue in your boudoir.
And how about your insides? Yup, the colour of your food will also have an affect on how you feel and act.
Orange foods, for example, provide energy and an alert mind. They also promote good circulation and a strong immune system.
So - what’s the key to all this colour stuff? Like most other things in life (apart from unicorns and puppy hugs) it’s about balance. Keeping each colour energy balanced makes for a balanced body, mind, spirit ... and wardrobe ;)
An imbalance of red makes one impatient, quick and bad tempered and headstrong. It can cause an inability to accept life’s responsibilities, and lead to ruthlessness and pushiness.
When blue is in balance, one will have a soft, gentle and peaceful nature. A balance of blue will also result in one being caring, able to access their higher intellect and a good judge of character.
Some of this is feeling familiar ...
And so it might. Part of why I love Colour Therapy is because it’s what I like to call a “gateway modality”. With even just the basics of colour knowledge you can begin working with essential oils, crystals, and the Chakra system.
Hang on, you lost me on that last one!
Chakras (which literally means “wheels”) are the centres of energy or power running along the spine of the human body. Energy emanates from the chakras and flows through chakras, feeding the cellular structure of the body.
And ... there are seven major chakras which align with the seven colours of the spectrum. Neat, huh?
You can check out more about chakras with the freebie on the website. If you’d like a colour tip right now, hit me up on the Facebook Page - I’m dying to help! Anything from foods to concentration, to paint suggestions from the lounge to what to wear on a first date: let me know!
